BentonSans Font Family is a modern sans-serif based typeface. It was designed in 1995, by a famous typeface designer Tobias Frere Jones and expended by another designer from Font Bureau named Cyrus Highsmith. This typeface was a redesigned version of Benton Gothic font.
Benton Sans is a digital typeface family that started in 1995 by Tobias Frere-Jones and later developed by Cyrus Highsmith of Font Bureau. It is inspired by the sans-serif typefaces for American Type Founders created by Morris Fuller Benton at the turn of the twentieth century in industrial or grotesque style. It was a new font created from Benton Gothic for several corporate clients with the assistance of Frere-Jones.
During the development of the typeface, Frere-Jones looked at the drawings of News Gothic 1908 by Morris Fuller Benton kept at the Smithsonian Institution. The typeface was originally developed as a custom typeface, first known as MSL Gothic, for use in the magazine Martha Stewart Living and for the website for the Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia company. As Benton Gothic, there are 7 styles from Thin to Black and it has only 2 Optical Sizes.
